WKU WBB Faces Offensive Struggles, Falls to New Mexico State 50-44

In a tough offensive night, WKU women’s basketball (12-7, 3-1 CUSA) was unable to secure a win against New Mexico State (7-9, 1-2 CUSA), ending with a score of 50-44. Head coach Greg Collins expressed concern over individual play and insufficient teamwork, emphasizing the need for better ball movement and defensive rebounding. Despite leading in rebounds, the Lady Toppers struggled with turnovers, resulting in a challenging low-scoring game.

The Lady Toppers experienced season lows in various categories, including points scored (44), made threes (2), 3-point shooting percentage (11.1%), made free throws (6), and free throw shooting percentage (54.5%). Alexis Mead and Acacia Hayes led WKU in scoring with nine points each, but the team faced difficulties in offensive execution.

Coach Collins acknowledged the need for improvement in key areas, emphasizing the importance of team play, reduced turnovers, and enhanced defensive rebounding. The loss marked a departure from the Lady Toppers’ recent success and highlighted areas for growth as they look to bounce back in the upcoming games.

WKU will seek to regroup and address these challenges as they prepare for their next game against UTEP on Saturday, Jan. 20, at noon in Diddle Arena. The team aims to return to winning form and overcome the offensive struggles faced in the matchup against New Mexico State.
