In a remarkable display of athleticism and determination, the Eastern Kentucky University track and field teams delivered outstanding performances at the Rick Erdmann Twilight, held at the Tom Samuels Track. The event witnessed the Colonels achieving eight personal-best marks, showcasing their dedication and skill on the track and in the field.
Leading the charge was Samuel Carter, who emerged victorious in the long jump with a stellar personal-best leap of 7.41m, a feat that places him at No. 2 in the ASUN and No. 50 in the East Region. Javon Adams also impressed, securing third place with a personal-best jump of 6.96m.
Carter continued his winning streak by dominating the triple jump, achieving another personal best with a remarkable distance of 15.33m. His outstanding performances in both the long jump and triple jump mark a significant milestone for EKU, establishing him as a standout athlete in the region and the nation.
In the shot put event, Matthew See delivered a commendable performance, recording a personal-best throw of 15.99m, which earned him second place and ranks as the fifth-best mark in program history. Cooper Brummett showcased his talent in the discus throw, achieving a personal best with a distance of 45.12m to secure third place.
Adams continued to impress in the javelin throw, achieving his second-best mark of the day with a throw of 49.80m, securing fourth place. Meanwhile, Cobi Tye Stevens clocked a personal-best time of 11.38 in the 100 meters, demonstrating his speed and agility on the track.
The women’s 1,500 meters saw an impressive showing from the Colonels, with six athletes finishing in the top 10. Sydney Little Light led the charge, claiming first place with a time of 4:22.46, followed closely by Khadija Ennasri and Bahiya El Arfaoui in second and third place, respectively. Lucy Thornton delivered a personal-best performance, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:37.01.
In the men’s events, Ahmed Kadri secured victory in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:48.92, while Jan Badia impressed with a college-best time of 1:49.32 to finish second. Irene Rubio Miralles emerged triumphant in the women’s 800 meters, clocking a college-best time of 2:10.18.
Other notable performances include Jake Welch’s win in the 400 meters with a time of 48.88, and Hakim Abouzouhir’s victory in the men’s 5,000 meters with a time of 14:08.36. Sonia Koech showcased her dominance in the women’s 5K, claiming victory with a time of 18:04.86.
With these remarkable achievements, the Colonels are poised for continued success as they prepare to compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational in Indiana on May 3, demonstrating their relentless pursuit of excellence on the track and in the field.
