Louisville Men’s Soccer Suffers First Defeat in 1-0 Loss at Kentucky

Despite controlling much of the action and dominating the offensive chances, the University of Louisville men’s soccer team was unable to capitalize on the opportunities dropping a 1-0 decision at No. 16 Kentucky on Tuesday night at the Bell Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals (2-1-1) finished with a 16-2 advantage in shots, including a 13-0 margin in the second half, and had a 3-1 edge in shots on goal. Louisville also closed the match with a 5-1 cushion in corner kick chances against the Wildcats (3-0-1).
“For us, coming off the first half, we were a little disappointed because we sat in too deep and the second half was just about stepping higher and putting pressure on them,” said Louisville head coach Ken Lolla. “I thought, once we did that, we took control of the game. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a goal and in a game like this, where they get one a little bit against the run of play, they end up winning and that’s the game of soccer.”
Kentucky delivered the only goal of the match in the 41st minute when Noah Hutchins connected on a header from eight yards away for the 1-0 lead. The scoring chance started when Charlie Reymann fired a free kick from beyond the midline into the box, where Hutchins tucked it beneath the crossbar for his second goal of the season.
Tuesday’s result was the first loss for the Cardinals against the Wildcats since 2012. Louisville entered the annual Battle of the Bluegrass match having won back-to-back contests and five of the last six in the series.
Up next, Louisville opens ACC action with a visit to Pittsburgh on Friday at 7 p.m., ET and the match will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
