As part of NKU Day at the Reds, the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will be honored prior to the Cincinnati Reds game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. Head coach Darrin Horn will throw out the first pitch and Ashish Vaidya, President of NKU, is serving as the honorary team captain.
The Norse are coming off of their second-straight Horizon League Regular-Season Championship and second Horizon League Tournament title in the last three years. As a result, NKU has reached the postseason all three campaigns, participating in two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT.
Horn, who was hired as Northern Kentucky’s sixth head coach in April, is set to throw out the first pitch, with his son Walker serving as the catcher. Horn is no stranger to throwing out first pitches this season, as both he and President Vaidya did so at the Florence Freedom game on Aug. 22.
NKU has sold out of all 500 special ticket packages. However, tickets are still available for as low as $15 each. Fans interested in purchasing tickets can do so online by clicking here. Ken Griffey Jr. bobbleheads will be given to the first 20,000 fans in attendance and Grammy-nominated The Avett Brothers are performing a postgame concert.
Game time is set for 4:10 p.m., with the NKU men’s basketball team scheduled to be honored at approximately 3:40 and first pitch to follow shortly thereafter.
