UK Track & Field’s Jacob Thomson Wins 10k at Raleigh Relays

Jacob Thomson won the 10,000 meters in the second fastest time in Kentucky track and field history on Friday at North Carolina State’s Raleigh Relays.
The UK sophomore ran a personal best 29:01.34, unleashing an impressive kick on the last lap to surge into winning position. The time is the early NCAA leader, with not all performances from across the country reported on the national descending-order list at time of publication.
Mark Nenow ran the school record: 28:32.00 in 1980.
Nick Anderson advanced to Saturday’s 110m hurdles with the eighth fastest time of the preliminary rounds.
The 2016 Raleigh Relays includes 2,306 individual entries and 254 relay teams and more than 100 universities entered athletes in the meet.
The meet is being broadcast on Flotrack and ESPN3. FlashResults is providing live results.
This weekend’s competition will only feature Wildcats from the Kentucky men’s team.
UK’s women’s team was rated No. 9 nationally to begin the outdoor season in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association computer rankings, on Wednesday.
Kentucky will send a large and diverse group to the Florida Relays next weekend.
