In a highly anticipated Sweet 16 boys basketball tournament game, Frederick Douglass High School convincingly defeated Martin County High School, 73-53. Frederick Douglass displayed their superior skills and teamwork, earning a well-deserved victory and advancing to the next round of the tournament.

Frederick Douglass dominated the game with a 44% field goal percentage, hitting 31 of their 71 shots, while Martin County struggled, making only 35% of their field goal attempts (19-54). Although Frederick Douglass had a disappointing 7% success rate from beyond the arc (1-14), their performance from the free-throw line was slightly better at 56% (10-18).

On the other hand, Martin County’s three-point shooting was slightly better at 26% (5-19), but their free throw percentage was similar to Frederick Douglass at 67% (10-15). One of the critical factors in this game was the disparity in rebounds, with Frederick Douglass grabbing 46, including 22 offensive boards, compared to Martin County’s 36.

The game featured strong individual performances from both teams. For Martin County, Bray McKenzie led the team in scoring with 11 points, while Jacob Sturgell contributed with a team-high 8 rebounds. Dray Duff added 3 assists to his tally.
