WKU Tennis Sweeps Belmont 7-0

For the third time this season, the Lady Toppers’ tennis squad blanked an opponent as WKU downed Belmont, 7-0, inside the Wildwood Bubble in Nashville, Tennessee, Saturday evening.

The victory over the Bruins now moves head coach Jonatan Berhane to 3-0 against BU, including all on the road in Nashville.

WKU began Saturday’s match by executing at the doubles point and never looking back. Seniors Andreanna Christopoulou and Elpida Malamou set the tone against BU’s Lindsey Whitehead and Kendall Warren at the No. 1 spot winning comfortably, 6-0. The freshman duo of Cindy Oest and Natalia De Ugarte followed suit by outlasting BU’s No. 2 pair, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point.

After capturing the doubles point, Christopoulou kept the momentum by defeating Laura Kent in singles 6-4, 6-4. Malamou followed by keeping her 17-match winning streak alive, beating Whitehead 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Cindy Oest battled in her first set winning 7-5, then followed it up by a 6-2 victory over Laura Van Eckhoudt to claim the Lady Topper victory.

All of the remaining matches were played out as De Garte, Monica Malinen and Lisa Friess were victorious, completing the sweep.

WKU will be back in action tomorrow as the Lady Toppers will take on Lipscomb at 6 p.m. CT inside the Whitworth Indoor Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
