by Brad Phipps – The Colonel bowlers were in action in Bowling Green tonight at Southern Lanes. The boys got off to a shaky start but finished strong. This was truly a test of how well the boys responded to a little adversity.
In the first head to head match the boys tied with the Raiders. The match was back and forth the entire match. The Colonels were led by junior Justin Sturgeon with a 161. Sturgeon was followed by fellow junior Tyler Reed with a 158. Warren East had two bowlers with higher games but the Colonels held on to the tie.
In the second head to head the Colonels jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. Even though the game wound up an 11 pin difference, in favor of the Colonels, it was really not that close. The Colonels were led by Sturgeon again with a strong 194 (355 series) and Reed with a 152 (310 series). Going into the Baker’s matches the Colonels were up by 11 pins total.
In the Baker’s matches the Colonels took a “W” in the first and dropped the second. The pin difference in the first was 33 pins with the Colonels rolling a 173. The second Baker’s saw the Colonels with some younger faces in the line up. The second match was a 29 pin difference in favor of the Raiders. The match boiled down to the total pin count which saw Caverna prevail by a total of 15 pins. The Colonels are in action again next week at Ralphie’s, Thursday 12/19 taking on Russell Co.
