EKU Track & Field Notches Five OVC-Best Performances at Raleigh Relays

The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team recorded five OVC-best performances at the talent-laden Raleigh Relays this weekend at Paul Derr Track.

Sophomore Erick Rotich finished 15th out of more than 100 competitors in the men’s 5,000 meters with an OVC-best time of 14:08.5. That time is currently the seventh fastest 5K in the country.

Junior Luisa Boschan, meanwhile, shined in the women’s 5,000 meters, also taking 15th out of more than 100 runners with a personal and OVC-best time of 16:36.17. That time currently ranks 10th in the country. It is also the fifth fastest outdoor 5K in EKU history.

Boschan was one of three EKU women to go sub-17:00 in the 5,000 meters on Friday, as junior Ciara Scott clocked a 16:56.59 and freshman Lilian Jeptoo Kiborus notched a personal-best time of 16:58.03.

Junior Tom Koringo placed 13th out of 103 competitors in the men’s 1,500 meters, clocking an OVC-best time of 3:47.92. That time ranks 16th in the country.

Junior Haley Yost took 15th out of 105 runners in the women’s 1,500 meters, recording a personal and OVC-best time of 4:26.72. That time currently ranks in the top-20 in the country.

Sophomore Tequan Claitt tied for third in the men’s high jump with an OVC-best mark of 6-10.75. That is currently the 18th best leap in the country.

Other notable performances from the weekend included junior Derayvon Thomas-Randle running 50.38 in the men’s 400 meters (good enough for fourth in the OVC), junior Charlotte Imer clocking a personal-best 4:27.6 in the women’s 1,500 meters (second in the OVC), senior Ambrose Maritim running 14:18.7 in the men’s 5,000 meters (second in the OVC) and junior Isaac Lee going 54.59 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (second in the OVC).

The loaded meet featured 100 schools and 2,217 entries (NCAA, Pro, Club, High School).

EKU will split next weekend between the Stanford Invitational in California and the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati.
