EKU Women’s Tennis Close Regular Season With Road Loss

The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss at Murray State University in its regular season finale on Saturday.

With each team having won one doubles match, the Racers earned a slim 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles to secure the first point of the match.

EKU (10-10, 6-3 OVC) quickly tied the score when Kristina Lagoda began singles play with a 6-1 and 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.

Murray State (7-11, 4-5 OVC) had a 3-2 lead when Sara Bjork came from a 1-0 deficit to knock off Marina Marti 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 6 singles to win the match. Viktorija Demcenkova overcame a one-set deficit herself to earn a 2-6, 7-5 and 7-6 win at No. 2 singles for the Colonels.

Eastern will face Murray State again in the first round of the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on Friday. The third seeded Colonels and sixth seeded Racers will face off at 11 a.m. ET at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tennessee.
