Louisville Women’s Golf Tied for 11th After Day One at Columbus Regional

Molly Skapik shot a 5-over-par 77 on Monday and led the University of Louisville women’s golf team into an 11th-place tie in the opening round of the NCAA Columbus Regional Championship in Columbus, Ohio.

Skapik is tied for 22nd through the first 18 holes of the event, which is being held on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University’s Golf Club. The junior hit six bogeys during the day, with her lone birdie on No. 18.

The Cardinals, among an 18-team field, had to battle abnormally cold temperatures and windy conditions. The team recorded a 26-over-par 314, a score Wisconsin matched, and trail fourth-ranked Florida by 17 strokes heading into the second round of play.

Louisville is scheduled to tee off on Tuesday with Colorado and the Badgers for the second round, starting on hole No. 10 at 7:30 a.m. ET.

Freshman Lauren Hartlage overcame a slow start, bogeying her first three holes of the day, and capped the opening round at 6-over-par 78. Hartlage, who is tied for 36th, has consistently been one of the Cardinals’ top golfers, boasting a team-best 73.19 average entering the tournament.

Olivia Cason, who earned all-region honors last year, put together a 7-over-79 and is tied for 43rd.

Redshirt freshman Meghan Nay contributed the team’s fourth-best score and is tied for 52nd, with an 8-over-par 80.
