Former UK MBB Darius Miller Wins Third Straight German League Title

Already a professional at playing basketball, Darius Miller appears to be a pro at winning championships.

The former Kentucky men’s basketball standout captured yet another championship, winning a third straight easyCredit BBL title on Sunday with Brose Bamberg in Germany. Brose Bamberg swept EWE Baskets Oldenburg for its ninth easyCredit BBL crown. The BBL is the top league in Germany.

The latest championship continues a remarkable title run for Miller. The Maysville, Kentucky, native won the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen with Mason Country in 2008, the NCAA national championship with the 2012 Kentucky men’s basketball team and now three straight titles with Brose Bamberg. Miller also won two Southeastern Conference regular-season titles and two SEC Tournament crowns with the Wildcats.

Miller averaged 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the best-of-five easyCredit BBL championship series. He made 10 of 17 shots from behind the arc (58.8 percent). That’s after winning the most valuable player honors in the championship series a season ago, a performance that included an 8-for-9 day from 3-point range in game one.

Brose Bamberg rolled 96-60 in the first game of this year’s series behind Miller’s 14 points, four assists and two rebounds. Miller followed that with 12 points, seven boards and two dimes in an 88-76 victory in game two, and then closed out the series Sunday with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in a 76-58 win.

Miller, who starred at Kentucky from the 2008-09 season through the 2011-12 national championship season, averaged 8.2 points per game during his four-year career at UK. The 2012 SEC Tournament MVP ranks 34th all-time on Kentucky’s career scoring list and 10th in career 3-pointers with 175 treys. His 152 games played in a Kentucky uniform are the most in program history.
