Head Coach Jane Worthington and the Eastern Kentucky University softball team have unveiled the 2018 schedule, headlined by a home tournament, March 9-11, for the first time since 2009.
The Colonels will open up the season on the road for four straight weeks playing in tournaments at Depaul, Charleston Southern, Mercer University and Winthrop University. Three will feature a four game slate in two days, while the Black and Orange Challenge at Mercer will be five games in three days.
EKU then comes to Gertrude Hood Field to open at home with a seven game slate, beginning with a doubleheader against the University of Dayton on March 6. That weekend the Colonels will welcome in Western Carolina University, the University of Akron, St. Louis University and Northern Illinois University, March 9-11, for the first tournament held at Eastern Kentucky in nine years. The weekend will consist of 12 games over the three days with the Colonels playing in five.
Eastern heads to the Lone Star state for a spring break trip to play at Lamar University, Houston Baptist and close the trip with a tournament at the University of Houston.
Games at Western Kentucky and the University of Kentucky and home contests against Miami (Ohio), Northern Kentucky and the Wildcats will close out the non-conference schedule.
Conference foes Murray State, Austin Peay State, Belmont University, Tennessee State University, Southeast Missouri State and the University of Tennessee at Martin will all come to Gertrude Hood Field this season.
