Kentucky Softball Standouts Coffel and Smith Earn All-SEC Honors

Kentucky Softball received notable recognition as players Erin Coffel and Rylea Smith secured spots on the prestigious 2024 All-Southeastern Conference softball team, announced by the league office on Friday morning.

Coffel’s Remarkable Third Consecutive First Team Selection

Erin Coffel garnered First Team All-SEC honors, a testament to her consistent excellence on the field. Additionally, Coffel clinched the title of the all-defensive player for the shortstop position in the SEC. This marks Coffel’s third consecutive season being voted to the SEC’s first team, underscoring her remarkable talent and dedication to the game. Throughout the league games, Coffel boasted impressive stats, including a .304 batting average, three home runs, and 10 runs batted in. Notably, she led all SEC batters in on-base percentage, showcasing her ability to consistently reach base. Coffel’s stellar performance was instrumental in propelling Kentucky’s success in the SEC.

Smith’s Inaugural Second Team Selection

Rylea Smith, hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, earned her first-career All-SEC honor with a Second Team All-SEC nod. Smith’s outstanding statistical career paved the way for this well-deserved recognition. Leading Kentucky with a .313 batting average for the league season, Smith demonstrated her prowess at the plate. Her clutch moments, including a memorable walk-off double against No. 13 Alabama, solidified her impact on the team’s success. Tennessee’s Karen Weekly clinched the prestigious title of SEC Coach of the Year, while Karlyn Pickens was honored as the SEC Pitcher of the Year. Jocelyn Erickson from Florida received accolades as the SEC Player of the Year, with Keegan Rothrock earning recognition as the SEC Freshman of the Year.
