EKU MBB Set To Welcome Transy To McBrayer Arena On Saturday

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will host Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon at McBrayer Arena. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.

The game will air live on ESPN+. The radio broadcast of the game can be heard locally at 100.7 FM and worldwide at EKUSports.com.

WHAT TO KNOW

EKU (4-1) erased a 16-point halftime deficit to beat rival Morehead State, 71-68, in its home and OVC opener on Monday night.

Sophomore Michael Moreno poured in a career-high 29 points in the win over Morehead State. Moreno also posted career highs in minutes (35), field goals (10) and three-point field goals (6) on the night.

Tre King had 13 points, nine rebounds and a career-high seven steals on Monday. His seven steals were the most by a Colonel in a single game since January of 2019. King now leads the OVC in steals-per-game at 3.8.

Freshman Wendell Green Jr. currently leads the OVC in assists-per-game at 5.8.

King was voted OVC Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday. He averaged a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds-per-game last week. Curt Lewis was named OVC Co-Freshman of the Week. He posted 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists-per-game last week.

EKU forced Morehead State into 27 turnovers on Monday. The Colonels rank 3rd in the country in steals-per-game (12.8), 5th in turnovers forced-per-game (22.4) and 6th in turnover margin (+9.8).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Transylvania (0-2) fell at Morehead State on consecutive night this week to open its regular season.

The Pioneers went 19-9 (13-5 SAA) last season.

Michael Jefferson (15.0 points-per-game last season) is Transylvania’s leading returner.

This is the 42nd meeting between EKU and Transylvania, but the first since Dec. 15, 2001. Eastern leads the series, 28-13, and has won 14 straight over the Pioneers.

UP NEXT

Following Saturday’s game, EKU will travel to play Morehead State on Monday, December 14. Tip from Johnson Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
