EKU WBB Hits the Road To Take On Its 3rd Top-25 Team of the Year

Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball team hits the road to take on its third top-25 team of the year at Northwestern University on Tuesday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

INSIDE THE SERIES

– This will be the first all-time meeting between the two teams.

THE COLONELS

–  Eastern comes in at 3-2 (2-0 OVC), and winners of its last three, after defeating Chattanooga, 62-45, Friday in Chattanooga. 

–  Jayla Johnson led the way for the Colonels posting a team-best 18 points and seven rebounds in the win. Johnson scored 11 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter. 

–  Emma Hacker provided a big spark off the bench in the first quarter, chipping in eight points and a career-best five rebounds in the win against the Mocs.

–  EKU out-scored the Mocs 27-8 off the bench.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

–  Northwestern comes into the contest, 3-0 and ranked No. 16 in the country, after knocking off Purdue, 70-54, in West Lafayette on Thursday.

–  Veronica Burton leads the way for the Wildcats averaging a team-high 22.7 points and 6.3 assists per game on the season. 

–  Four Wildcats posted double-digit points in the win against Purdue.

–  Northwestern ranks second in the country in turnover margin.

Eastern Kentucky takes a few days off before the Colonels ramp up conference play welcoming in Eastern Illinois to McBrayer Arena on Dec. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
