NKU MBB’s Marques Warrick hauls in third Horizon League Freshman of the Week accolade

Northern Kentucky’s Marques Warrick continues to shine on the court for the Norse and is being rewarded off of it as well, as the guard has now collected his third Horizon League Freshman of the Week honor in the first six weeks of the season.

Warrick led NKU to a pair of wins against Purdue Fort Wayne over the weekend, posting back-to-back 22-point outings. He became the first Norse freshman in at least 15 years to register consecutive 20-point games.

In Friday’s 75-68 Norse win, Warrick established a career-high 22 points, four rebounds and three steals. For an encore on Saturday, he went for another 22 points, including the game-winning basket with just over two seconds remaining. For the week, the Lexington, Kentucky native shot a blistering 58 percent (18-of-31) from the floor and made all four free-throw attempts.

The honor is the third for Warrick already this season after he picked up the first two freshman of the week nods of the campaign. Including David Böhm’s freshman of the week honor, a Norse has won four of the six this season.

Northern Kentucky sits at 3-1 in league play and 5-4 overall, and will resume action with a road trip to Cleveland State Friday and Saturday, each tipping off at 7 p.m.
