For the fifth time since the Saints joined the NAIA during the 2019-20 school year, Thomas More is on top of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll.
The preseason rankings came out Wednesday morning for the 2022-23 season and the reigning NAIA National Champions received 19 of a possible 21 first-place votes. Thomas More finished 32-4 last season.
This is the 13th time since joining the NAIA that the Saints have been ranked in the top-five and 10th time they have been ranked in the top-three. With the men’s basketball team’s No. 2 ranking, this is the first-time in school history that the women have been ranked No. 1 and the men No. 2.
Thomas More begins their 2022-23 season this Monday night at 7:00 p.m. against the No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats. The Saints are 3-0 against IWU since the 2019-20 season, with their most recent matchup being a 74-71 win in Marion, Indiana on Dec. 15, 2020.
They will then travel to Montana to take on the No. 5 Carroll College Fighting Saints on Nov. 4, who beat them 68-48 on Dec. 20, 2019. The next day on Nov. 5, they play the University of Providence Argos, who they beat 82-73 on Dec. 21, 2019.
The Saints begin Mid-South Conference play at home on Nov. 17 against University of the Cumberlands, who are receiving votes before traveling to No. 15 Georgetown College on Nov. 19. They split with the Patriots last season and swept the Tigers.
