No. 10 Louisville Swimming Sweeps Notre Dame

The No. 10-ranked University of Louisville swimming and diving team swept Notre Dame Friday afternoon in the Rolfs Aquatics Center. The Cardinal men won 172-128 and the women won 191-102.
 
The Cardinals were paced by multiple event winners. For the women, Gabi Albiero (200 medley relay, 100 fly, 400 free relay), Christiana Regenauer (200 medley relay, 50 free, 400 free relay), Cecilia Viberg (200 medley relay, 100 breast, 200 breast) and Tristen Ulett (200 free, 100 free, 200 IM). For the men, Dalton Lowe led the way with four wins (200 medley relay, 100 back, 100 fly, 400 free relay). Denis Petrashov (200 medley relay, 100 breast, 200 breast) and Abdelrahman El-Araby (200 medley relay, 400 free relay, 50 freestyle) had three wins as did Murilo Sartori (200 free, 100 free and 400 free relay).
 
The Cardinals head to the Purdue Invitational Nov. 16-18 next.

The Cardinals swept the first relay of the meet. In the 200 medley relay, the women’s foursome of Abby Hay (25.81), Cecilia Viberg (27.58), Gabi Albiero (23.75) and an anchor of 22.23 by Christiana Regenauer put the Cards first into the wall with a time of 1:39.37.  In the men’s race, Dalton Lowe (21.61), Denis Petrashov (24.29), Haridi Sameh (20.77) and Michael Eastman (19.62) combined forces to post the winning time of 1:26.29.
 
Distance star Liberty Williams touched first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10.00.73 for UofL. Teammate Paige Kuwata was third with a time of 10:09.80.  ND’s Jack Hoagland was first in the men’s event with a time of 9:04.86. Louisville’s Ilia Sibirtsev was second in 9:12.28 and teammate Eli Shoyat was third with a time of 9:18.27.
 
The Cardinals had the top two spots in the 200 freestyle when Tristen Ulett (1:48.39) and Gabi Albiero (1:49.37) held off the Irish. In the men’s 200 free, the Cardinals took first and third with Murilo Sartori winning with a time of 1:34.79. Denis Loktev was third, boarding a 1:37.08.
 
In the 100 backstroke, the Irish took the top two spots with Cardinal Paige Hetrick touching third with a time of 55.04 and Jordan Durocher touching fifth with a 56.39.  Dalton Lowe was the winner in the men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 47.15 for the Cardinals. Freshman Cardinal Charlie Crush was fourth with a time of 48.61.
 
Freshman Cecilia Viberg won the 100 breast going away with a time of 1:01.41, almost two second ahead of second place finisher Ella Welch from ND.  UofL’s Denis Petrashov won the men’s 100 breast  with a time of 54.30 with teammate Aiden Kreiley into the wall second 55.42.
 
In the 200 butterfly, Abby Hay was second with a time of 1:59.18 just being out-touched by .06 by ND’s Coleen Gillilan’s winning time 1:59.12. For the men, ND’s Cason Wilburn took the top spot with a winning time of 1:47.37. Gustavo Saldo of Louisville was second  with a time of 1:48.91. Tommy Bried was fourth for the Cards with a time of 1:49.32.
 
Christiana Regenauer ran away with the 50 free, boarding the winning time of 22.92.  Louisville’s Karoline Barrett was second with a time of 23.46.  On the men’s side, Abdelrahman El-Araby was first with a time of 19.88. Michael Eastman was third with a time of 20.39.
 
Tristen Ulett got her second sprint victory with a win in the 100 freestyle, and UofL freshman Julia Dennis was right behind with a second place time of 51.17 and Ella Welch completing the 1-2-3 sweep with a time of 51.41.  Murilo Sartori notched his second win with a 43.84 in the men’s 100 free.
 
Cardinal frost Jordan Durocher won the 200 back with a time of 1:59.07 and teammate Rye Ulett was third with a time of 1:59.22 in a hotly contested finish.  For the men, ND’s Tommy Janton left the field in his wake with a decisive win in the men’s 200 back and a time of 1:45.33. Louisville freshman Jackson Millard was second into the wall in 1:47.38.
 
Viberg made it a breaststroke sweep with a win in the 200 breaststroke and a time of 2:17.34. Abby Hay went 2:17.41 and Madie Hall was third in 2:18.96 to complete the Cardinal sweep of the top three spots. In the men’s 200 breast, Denis Petrashov completed his sweep with a winning time of 1:57.87.
 
Liberty Williams won the 500 freestyle after holding off ND’s hard-charging Mary Cate Pruitt. Willams went 4:53.24 and Pruitt touching in 4:53.53. Cardinal freshman Paige Kuwata. ND’s Jack Hoagland won the men’s event by two seconds with a 4:23.31 to out-touch Louisville’s Illia Sibirtsev’s 4:25.53. Eli Shoyat was third for Louisville with a time of 4:27.48.   
 
Gabi Albiero won the 100 fly with a time of 52.79 and teammate Christiana Regenauer was third in 53.53 and Karoline Barrett’s third place time of 53.53 rounded out the scorers for the Cardinals.  Dalton Lowe won the men’s 100 fly with a time of 46.46 for his third win of the meet.
 
The Cardinal women finished in the top two spots in the 200 IM led Tristen Ulett’s winning time of 2:01.89 and Abby Hay taking second, boarding a 2:01.94. UofL freshman Charlie Crush  and sophomore Luke Shourds took the top two spots with times of 1:49.93 and 1:51.14.
 
In men’s 1-meter springboard, Louisville’s Adam Sneden posted the top score with a mark of 327.75. Teammate Che Stephens was third with a score of 309.68. In men’s 3-meter diving, Notre Dame’s Daniel Knapp and Benedict Nguyen took the top two honors with Che Stephens placing third with a score of 337.50. Adam Sneden was fourth and Logan Smith was fifth, scoring 327.63 and 302.85 respectively.
 
In women’s 1-meter diving, Caroline Brady of Notre Dame took top honors with a score of 289.80. Louisville’s Jiselle Miller was second with a 281.85. Lindsay Gizzi was just a fraction off of second with a mark of 281.63. On the 3-meter board, ND’s Allie Klein was first with Gizzi taking second with a score of 324.98. Jiselle Miller was fourth and Else Praasterink was fifth.  
 
The Louisville women won the 400 free relay with Christiana Regenauer (50.09), Ella Welch (50.46), Julia Dennis (50.30) and Gabi Albiero anchored with a 49.48 for a time 3:20.33.  The Louisville men followed suit with a winning time of 2:53.35 put up by Abdelrahman El-Araby (44.15), Murilo Sartori (42.88), Dalton Lowe (43.22) and Michael Eastman (43.10).
