The University of Louisville men’s and women’s cross country teams concluded their season at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday morning at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

Ian Kibiwot led the men’s team to a 13th-place finish, earning All-Region honors with a 17th-place showing in a time of 30:10.9 over the 10K course. Kibiwot becomes the first Louisville male to earn All-Region distinction since Emmanuel Cheboson placed 12th in 2019. The sophomore closes out the fall season as the Cardinals’ top men’s finisher in all six of their meets, after leading the Cardinals in all meets during his freshman season.

“Ian had a great run today. He went out with the front pack and fought within for the duration of the race,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “We’ll wait and see what the selection committee has to say this weekend, but my guess is that he will narrowly miss out on selection to the NCAA Finals next weekend.”

Isaac Kiprop battled to a new personal-best in the 10K, clocking 31:10.4 to earn 67th place. Three freshmen rounded out the scoring five for the Cardinals as each of them made their collegiate 10K debut. Jack Moore finished just inside the top 100, placing 92nd in 31:52.2. Nolan Satterfield and Spenser Wolf worked together throughout the race to record times of 32:22.2 and 32:25.5, respectively.

Charlotte’s Nickolas Scudder took the individual title in 29:42.8, while North Carolina and Virginia earned automatic team bids to the NCAA Championships.

In the women’s race, Madeline Castleberry was first to cross the line for Louisville, running 21:56.1 over 6K for 81st place. The women’s squad fought through a competitive field to finish 22nd as a team.

Sydney Partyka closed to a time of 22:48.4, while the sophomore duo of Megan John and Lexie Paszkiewicz finished in 23:11.9 and 23:17.1. Callie Friske recorded a top-five team finish for the first time this season, recording a time of 23:37.0.

NC State’s Katelyn Tuohy claimed the individual crown in 19:49.1, as the Wolfpack swept the top three spots and clinched a bid to the NCAA Championships, along with North Carolina.

“Many thanks to David Lawhorn, Brent Lampkin, and the countless volunteers that came together this week to stage a first-class event at Tom Sawyer Park,” added Cowper.

The 2022 Division I men’s and women’s cross country selection show will air on Saturday, November 12 at 5 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

The team will now begin preparation for the indoor track and field season. The complete indoor schedule will be released in mid-November.
