The Bellarmine Knights secured a commanding 56-45 win over Austin Peay in their ASUN Conference road game on Thursday night. The Knights came out strong, scoring the game’s first 12 points and never looking back.

The defense and rebounding of Bellarmine proved to be the key to their success. Despite shooting just 39 percent from the field, the Knights’ defense held Austin Peay to a mere 36 percent shooting. Additionally, Bellarmine dominated the rebounding department with a 36-25 advantage, including a 9-2 edge on the offensive glass.

Bellarmine graduate student Juston Betz led all scorers with 13 points and sophomore Curt Hopf tied his career high with nine rebounds. Coach Scott Davenport also praised the play of Landin Hacker, Langdon Hatton, Alec Pfriem, and Betz, highlighting their contribution to the team’s effort.

On the other hand, Austin Peay’s Guy Fauntleroy came off the bench to score 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win. The Governors fell to 8-12 overall and 2-5 in their inaugural season in ASUN play.

The win improved Bellarmine’s ASUN road record to 3-0 on the season and brought their overall record to 9-11 (4-3 ASUN). The Knights will remain in Tennessee for a Saturday matchup in Nashville with Lipscomb, who defeated Eastern Kentucky on Thursday to improve to 12-8, 4-3 ASUN.
