Great Weekend Earns Thomas More’s Mayer MSC Wrestler Of The Week

The Mid-South Conference announced their Wrestler of the Week this afternoon and for the first time in his career, junior Daulton Mayer (Mentor, Ky./Walton-Verona) was honored. He is the first Saint to be honored as the conference’s wrestler of the week this season.

Mayer had a solid weekend against great competition in the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern University on Friday and Saturday. He scored a total of four team points for the Saints during competition and went 3-2 overall, defeating wrestlers from NCAA Division I schools Brown University and the University of Missouri. He also competed against the No. 4 and No. 7 ranked heavyweights in the bracket.

Mayer defeated Brown’s Thomas Mukai 4-0 to get his weekend started, before dropping his next match. He beat Franklin & Marshall College’s Vincenzo Pelusi 4-0 before advancing to day two after a 53-second fall over Missouri’s Ryan Boersma. He was the lone Saint to move onto day two and dropped his final match 7-1 against the University of Pennsylvania’s Ben Goldin. Mayer now sits with a team-high 15 victories this season.

The Saints return to action for their next dual in the Connor Convocation Center, hosting crosstown rival Mount St. Joseph University on Sunday, January 8th at Noon.
