Kentucky State Thorobreds WBB Secures Dominant Victory vs Spring Hill

The Kentucky State Thorobreds women’s basketball team secured a 67-51 victory against the Spring Hill College Badgers on Monday night, with a strong and steady performance throughout the game.

The game featured six ties and six lead changes, but the Thorobreds held the lead for an impressive 89.5% of the game. Two Thorobreds stood out with double-digit scoring, Laurie Thomas with 16 points and Hilani Cantone with 10 points.

The game began with a fast break layup by Taleah Dilworth, giving Kentucky State an early 2-0 lead. The Badgers quickly responded with a mid-range jumper to tie the game at 2-2, but the Thorobreds quickly regained the lead with a jump shot by Gracen Kerr. The lead changed three times in the second half of the first quarter, with a last-minute layup by Thomas giving the Thorobreds a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Badgers briefly took the lead on a made free throw, but Thomas responded with a layup and converted a turnover to give the Thorobreds an 18-16 lead. Kerr added to the lead with a fast break layup, giving the Thorobreds a 27-20 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Thomas scored another fast break layup, assisted by Cantone, to give the Thorobreds a 12-point lead at 33-21. The Thorobreds continued to dominate, with a layup increasing the scoring gap to 30-41. The Badgers managed to close the gap to within four points, 41-37, by the end of the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Thorobreds lead.

In the fourth quarter, Lauren Powell made both of her free throw attempts to give the Thorobreds a 17-point lead at 66-49, with 1:46 remaining in the game. A made free throw by Kayla Thompson sealed the 67-51 victory for the Thorobreds.

The Thorobreds displayed a solid performance and great teamwork throughout the game, making it a difficult night for the Spring Hill Badgers. With this win, the Thorobreds continue to hold a strong position in their conference.
