Murray State Rifle Team makes a statement with strong performance against UT Martin

The Murray State rifle team started the second half of their 2022-23 season with a strong performance against UT Martin, outshooting the Skyhawks with a score of 4716-4554 on Saturday at the Skyhawk Rifle Range in Martin, Tennessee.

The Racers shot a 2245 in smallbore and followed it up with a 2309 in air rifle, which was one off the school record. The 4716 aggregate shot by the Racers on Saturday tied their season high.

John Blanton had a standout performance, putting up season-highs in smallbore, air rifle and aggregate at 589, 594 and 1183, respectively. Matias Kiuru also had a strong showing, shooting a 586 in smallbore and a 594 in air rifle for an aggregate of 4716. Allison Henry shot a match-high 596 in air rifle, while Scott Patterson shot a 594.

The Racers will return to action next weekend when they host the 2023 Withrow Invitational presented by Lapua at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky. The team will look to continue their strong performance and build on their success from this weekend’s match.
