Kentucky Splits Squad for Track & Field Action in Clemson & Seattle

The Kentucky Track & Field team will be split into two groups this weekend, with sprinters, hurdlers and field athletes competing at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, and the distance runners participating in the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington. With only two weeks to go before the 2023 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships at the University of Arkansas, this weekend provides an important opportunity for Wildcats to record times that will qualify them for the NCAA Championships in March.

At the Tiger Paw Invitational, field events will start at 11 a.m. on Friday, followed by running events at noon. On Saturday, the field events will begin at 10 a.m., with running events starting at 11:35 a.m. The final event is expected to start at 3:45 p.m. Fans can catch the action live on ACCNX streams, with links provided for Friday and Saturday. In Seattle, the distance running events at the Husky Classic will begin at 5:45 p.m. ET on Friday, with the final events starting at 11:10 p.m. ET. On Saturday, the distance events will begin at 3 p.m. ET, concluding at 5:50 p.m. ET. Two weeks ago at the Razorback Invitational the team broke two school records and won three events. Keaton Daniel broke his own school record in the men’s pole vault, as he ascended 18 feet, 10.25 inches/5.75 meters, while Kennedy Lightner won the men’s 200-meter dash for the second meet in a row. Josh Sobota also earned his third victory this season in the shot put, with a heave of 65’11”/20.09m. In the distance medley relay, Sydney Steely, Christal Mosley, Jenna Schwinghamer, and Tori Herman set a new school-record time of 10:58.26.

This weekend, the Kentucky Track & Field team has a chance to continue their impressive performances and secure their spots at the NCAA Championships in March. With split-squad action at two of the biggest indoor track & field meets in the country, the Wildcats are sure to put on a great show for fans.
