Kentucky Wildcats MBB Chris Livingston Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Freshman Chris Livingston of the Kentucky men’s basketball team has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after helping the Wildcats secure two key victories. Livingston, who hails from Akron, Ohio, averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and two assists per game in wins at Mississippi State and at home against No. 10 Tennessee.

Livingston was pivotal in the 71-68 win at Mississippi State, scoring all 13 of his points in the second half and also dishing out a career-high three assists. He followed up with a career-high 12 points and 10 rebounds, notching his first career double-double, in a 66-54 win over Tennessee on Saturday.

The accolade marks the fifth SEC weekly honor for a Wildcat this season. Oscar Tshiebwe was named SEC Player of the Week on Jan. 23, while Cason Wallace earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors three times this season.

Kentucky has dominated the SEC weekly awards during John Calipari’s tenure as head coach. The Wildcats have earned 124 weekly SEC honors, including 94 SEC Freshman of the Week awards and 30 SEC Player of the Week honors.

Livingston is currently averaging 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest this season. He has notched five double-figure scoring games, including three in his last four games, and has pulled down five or more rebounds in six games. Livingston also boasts a 38.1% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

Next up, Livingston and the Wildcats will travel to Gainesville, Florida, to take on the Gators on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
