Louisville T&F Shines on Day One of Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge

The University of Louisville track and field team wrapped up a successful first day of competition at Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge on Friday. The Cardinals shone in both the running and field events, with several athletes earning top-three finishes.

Sophomore Ian Kibiwot led the way for the Cards, finishing third in the men’s 5000m with a time of 13:58.68, making him the third-fastest performer in Louisville history in the event. Madeline Castleberry also had a standout performance in the women’s 5000m, securing a personal best time of 17:11.27.

In the field events, Ethan Alyea continued his impressive streak with a fifth consecutive top-five finish in the men’s weight throw. He recorded a heave of 19.62m (64-4.5), earning a third-place finish. Freshman Trae Burns also impressed in the men’s long jump, jumping 7.02m (23-0.5) to secure third place. Jenna Hensley cleared 1.63m (5-4.25) in the women’s open high jump, also earning a third-place finish.

The competition will resume tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with the women’s unseeded 3000m run, with the day’s events livestreamed on SECN+. The University of Louisville track and field team will look to continue their success from the first day of competition and make a strong showing in the remaining events.
