Murray State baseball suffered a 12-1 loss in their series finale against UIC on Sunday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. Despite the defeat, the Racers maintain sixth place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.

Ethan Krizen led the offensive effort for MSU, contributing a pair of singles and an RBI. Taylor Howell scored the Racers’ only run of the day after hitting a double down the left field line.

Shortstop Drew Vogel also added to the Racers’ performance at the plate with a single.

Cade Vernon, the starting pitcher for Murray State, went 5.2 innings, allowing just one earned run (five total) and striking out six UIC Flames. In relief, Allen Roulette pitched 1.2 innings without allowing any earned runs.

The Racers will aim to rebound on Tuesday as they travel to face Arkansas State in a 6 p.m. matchup. Despite the setback in their series finale, Murray State will look to capitalize on their current standing in the Missouri Valley Conference and continue to compete at a high level as the season progresses.
