No. 17 Kentucky Softball Overwhelms Bellarmine 13-4, Coffel and Blanton Shine

On Wednesday afternoon in Louisville, Jenna Blanton and Erin Coffel powered No. 17 Kentucky to a resounding 13-4 victory over Bellarmine. Blanton hit her first-career home run and went 3-for-4 at the plate, contributing four runs batted in, while Coffel hit a grand slam and knocked in five runs throughout the game.

Kentucky’s offense exploded with 13 runs on 11 hits, as every UK starter reached base during the contest. The Wildcats scored runs in the first, second, third, and seventh innings, winning the first game between the Knights and a power-five team at Bellarmine.

With the win, Kentucky improves its record to 25-10-1, while Bellarmine falls to 4-32. Kentucky will host No. 7/8 Tennessee this weekend at John Cropp Stadium, starting Friday night at 6:30 p.m. ET. The key play of the game was Erin Coffel’s grand slam in the top of the third inning. This contributed four of her five runs driven in, giving UK a 6-2 lead at the time. Ultimately, the Wildcats scored seven runs in the inning.

Jenna Blanton emerged as the key player, going 3-for-4, hitting her first-career home run, and providing two singles and four RBI. She had two separate two-RBI hits in the contest.

A notable statistic from the game is Erin Coffel becoming the first player in the program’s history to have three seasons with 45+ RBI. With her performance, she now has 46 on the season.
