Cooper Robb: From Kentucky Courts to Professional Hardwood

Former Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) standout Cooper Robb has taken his basketball journey to Europe, having inked a professional contract to join Hopsi Polzela in Slovenia’s prestigious Liga Nova KBM.

Robb, hailing from Georgetown, Kentucky, will be showcasing his skills in Slovenia from the end of September through April, as he enters a new phase in his basketball career. Fans and analysts alike are keen to observe how Robb will transition from college basketball in the U.S. to the European professional game.

During his tenure at EKU, Robb made a lasting impact. Over the span of three seasons, he showcased consistency, hard work, and commitment to his game. His senior year in 2022-23 was particularly notable. Averaging 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.4 assists per game, Robb proved himself as a formidable guard. His shooting ability was highlighted by his 33.7% accuracy from beyond the arc, sinking 58 of his 172 three-point attempts.

However, it wasn’t just his offensive prowess that gained attention. Defensively, the 6-foot-1 guard topped the charts in the Atlantic Sun Conference in terms of steals per game. Nationally, he ranked an impressive 71st with 58 total steals. Off the court, Robb continued to shine, earning a spot on the ASUN Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team, highlighting his commitment to both sport and study.

One of the memorable moments of his college career was during the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) championship game. With EKU trailing by 20 points and just 11 minutes on the clock against Charlotte, Robb spurred a dramatic comeback. He dazzled fans and opponents by netting five 3-pointers, and finishing the game with 17 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Thanks to his heroics, the Colonels closed the gap to just a single point.

That season, the Colonels secured a 23-14 record. Robb’s departure is undoubtedly a significant one for EKU. He was the sole starter who won’t be returning for the upcoming season. Yet, the future looks bright for the Colonels as they retain a robust core. An impressive 12 players are set to return, encompassing a staggering 89% of the team’s scoring, rebounds, and 90% of its assists. Additionally, the returning roster accounts for 79% of its steals and 91% of its blocks from the 2022-23 season.

While EKU prepares for another competitive season, all eyes will be on Slovenia to witness the next chapter in Cooper Robb’s burgeoning basketball story.
