The University of Louisville swimming team showcased their prowess on Day 2 of the Ohio State Fall Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, holding their ground at third place in both the men’s and women’s divisions. With stiff competition from nationally ranked opponents, the Cardinals are making waves as they vie for victory in this prestigious event.
Men’s Standings:
The Louisville men, currently sitting at a commendable third place, have accumulated a score of 1354.5. They trail behind powerhouse teams Indiana (1903) and Ohio State (1655). Despite facing formidable opponents like Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Pitt, and Cal, the Cardinals remain determined to climb the rankings over the remaining days of the competition.
Women’s Standings:
On the women’s side, the Louisville squad has posted a score of 1421, securing their third-place position. Ohio State (1830) and Indiana (1693.5) currently lead the pack, setting the stage for intense competition. Notable Achievements:
Louisville’s women’s team kicked off the meet with a strong showing in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing second with a time of 1:35.39. The quartet of Abby Hay, Ella Welch, Christiana Regenauer, and Gabi Albiero showcased their synchronized prowess in the pool.
Gabi Albiero continued to shine individually, claiming victory in the 100 fly with an impressive time of 50.83. The men’s 100 fly saw Dalton Lowe leading the charge for the Cardinals with a fifth-place finish in 46.35.
Abby Hay’s outstanding performance in the 400 IM resulted in a first-place finish for the Cardinals, clocking in at 4:09.42. On the men’s side, Jackson Millard secured third place with a time of 3:44.76 in the 400 IM.
In the 200 free, Paige Hetrick represented Louisville well, finishing fifth with a time of 1:46.36. The men’s 200 free showcased Murilo Sartori’s skills as he claimed fourth place with a time of 1:33.67.
The 100 breast events saw strong showings from Cecilia Viberg (fourth place, 59.66) and Denis Petrashov (fourth place, 52.49) for the women’s and men’s teams, respectively.
Jackson Millard, making his mark in the men’s 100 backstroke, secured eighth place with a time of 47.75.
Relay Success:
Both the women’s and men’s teams participated in the 800 free relay. Indiana claimed top honors in both categories, but Louisville’s relay teams displayed resilience. The women’s B-relay secured fourth place, while the men’s A-relay finished third, highlighting the team’s depth and competitive spirit.
