Kentucky Track & Field Opens Indoor Season With Indiana Early Bird Meet

The University of Kentucky track & field program returned to the track today competing in the Indiana Early Bird Meet hosted by Indiana University.

The Wildcats got their indoor season started on the right foot with 23 event wins including sweeping the women’s pentathlon, men’s and women’s weight throw, long jump, 60-meter hurdes, 200 meters, 600 meters and 4×400 meter relays.

Junior Logan Coles made UK history after setting a new school record of 68’04.50”/20.84 meters in the weight throw surpassing David Cline’s 67’08.75”/20.64 meters set in 2017.

The Wildcats recorded six new personal bests in three events while over 20 new student-athletes officially made their UK debuts.

60-METER HURDLES

WOMEN – Alexis Glasco earned an automatic qualifier in 8.36 in her Wildcat debut.

Emmi Scales earned an automatic qualifier in 8.44 in her Wildcat debut.

Maya Anderson earned an automatic qualifier in 8.73 on her Wildcat debut.

Camden Bentley qualified on time with an 8.82 on her Wildcat debut.

MEN – Alex Chukwukelu earned an automatic qualifier in 8.00 on his Wildcat debut.

WOMEN – Victoria Perrow earned an automatic qualifier in 7.55.

Alexis Glasco earned an automatic qualifier in 7.58 on her Wildcat debut.

Morgan Davis qualified on time with a 7.64 on her Wildcat debut.

MEN – Miles Jones earned an automatic qualifier in 6.74 on his Wildcat debut.

Luke Brown earned an automatic qualifier in 6.79.

Kennedy Lightner earned an automatic qualifier in 6.83.

Troy Lane qualified on time in 6.84 on his Wildcat debut.

WOMEN – Hannah Douglas placed second in 38.01 second to rank 10th on the all-time UK performers list on her Wildcat debut.

Jania Martin placed third in 38.28 seconds in her Wildcat debut.

MEN – Jahlahnee Watkins placed second in 34.71 seconds and ranks tied for 7th all-time on the UK performers list in his Wildcat debut.

Markevus Jackson placed fourth in 34.94 seconds ranking 10th all-time on the UK all-time performers list.

POLE VAULT

WOMEN – Payton Phillips tied for second today with a new indoor PR clearance of 13’07.25”/4.15 meters to remain third all-time in the UK performers list.

Both Kaitlyn Cain and Kristen Masucci tied for fourth at 12’01.50”/3.70 meters.

MEN – Dalton Shepler earned second with a clearance of 16’02.75”/4.95 meters while Brayden Jackson was third with an indoor PR of 16’02.75”/4.95 meters on his Wildcat debut.

LONG JUMP

WOMEN – Morgan Davis won her first career long jump event as a Wildcat after leaping for a mark of 19’10.75”/6.06 meters.

MEN – Miles Jones also won his first career long jump event as a Wildcat with a leap of 24’02.50”/7.38 meters.

Samuel Reagan placed fifth on his debut with a jump of 22’00.75”/6.72 meters.

HIGH JUMP

MEN – Donsten Brown placed fourth in the men’s high jump with a mark of 06’06.75”/2.00 meters.

TRIPLE JUMP

WOMEN – Ava Alexander was runner-up with a jump of 38’04.25”/11.69 meters while Asha Pierre-Antoine was just behind in third with a jump of 36’09.75”/11.22 meters in their debuts as Wildcats.

MEN – Luke Brown secured the final victory of the day for the Wildcats with a jump of 54’01.25”/16.49 meters.

THROWS

WEIGHT THROW

WOMEN – Simi Akinrinsola won the weight throw with a throw of 64’1”/19.53 meters.

Kate Powers was runner-up with a mark of 61’08.25”/18.80 meters on her debut, just 00.02 meters from tying Ashley Muffett’s freshman record of 61’9”/18.82 meters.

MEN – Logan Coles got to business straight away securing a new school record of 68’04.50”/20.84 meters and collecting an indoor PR in the process. Coles’ new mark surpasses that of David Cline’s 67’08.75”/20.64 meters set in 2017.

Dennis Ohene-Adu also bumped Cline’s historical mark down the list after throwing a 67’09.75”/20.67 meters indoor PR to move to second on the UK all-time performers list.

DaRoyce Flemons rounded out the good throwing for the Wildcats with a third-place indoor PR of 63’08.25”/19.41 meters.

SHOT PUT

WOMEN – Shelby Wingler won her first career event as a Wildcat with a throw of 47’09.25”/14.56 meters.

Simi Akinrinsola finished third with a throw of 45’01.75”/13.76 meters while Amaya Livingston was fourth on her Wildcat debut with a throw of 43’10.75”/13.38 meters.

MEN – Dennis Ohene-Adu took his second runners-up spot of the evening after throwing for 56’07.25”/17.25 meters.

Grayson Brashear earned his highest finish of the day placing third with a throw of 54’02.75”/16.53 meters on his debut as a Wildcat.

MULTIS

PENTATHLON

WOMEN – Julia Gunnell and Ariel Pedigo wrapped up the pentathlon in first and second place respectively in their Kentucky debuts. Pedigo held the lead through three events after three straight wins in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, and shot put competitions while Gunnell was runner-up through all three events. Gunnell closed out the competition winning the final two events on her way to her first career pentathlon win.

RELAYS

4×400 METER

WOMEN – Kentucky “A” consisting of Jania Martin, Hannah Douglas, Alexis Glasco, and Cha’iel Johnson won in 3:49.55.

Kentucky “B” consisting of Mahogany Mobley, Emmi Scales, Bryanna Lucas, and JahQueen McClellan placed fourth in 3:52.23.

MEN – Kentucky “A” consisting of Brandon Nyandoro, Kennedy Lightner, Brandon Miller and Justin Swann won in 3:14.30.

Kentucky “B” consisting of Markevus Jackson, Beck O’Daniel, Tavon Williams, and Jahlahnee Watkins: placed third in 3:19.52.

The Wildcats return to Kentucky to host the Rod McCravy Memorial on January 12-13 at the Norton Sports Center in Louisville, Ky. Home meet details will be announced when available.
