Louisville Cardinals Baseball Announce Five Players as Team Captains

The Louisville Cardinals baseball program has its leadership intact for the 2024 campaign, with five players set as team captains.

Logan Beard and Isaac Humphrey will serve their second straight years as captains, providing veteran presence both at the plate and in the field. Beard has manned second base for the better part of three seasons, earning All-Freshman honors back in 2022, while Humphrey holds down first base as a staple in the middle of the lineup.

Fellow fourth-year Cardinal JT Benson joins them as a newly minted captain, eager to make an impact after injuries slowed him during the 2023 season. When healthy, the scrappy outfielder has shown flashes of 20-20 potential.

Rounding out the captains are newcomer Dylan Hoy and fifth-year arm Evan Webster. Hoy should make an immediate two-way impact after arriving as a graduate transfer from Marist, where he put up strong numbers over four years. Louisville native Webster has been a bullpen mainstay for several seasons, providing leadership on a young but hungry staff.

With their captains guiding the squad, Louisville sets their sights on Omaha as the 2024 season kicks off with a three-game set in Tampa come February 16.
