Louisville VB’s DeBeer, Scott Named All-Americans

Louisville volleyball continued stockpiling talent from its own backyard this season, led by a pair of local products earning AVCA All-American status on Wednesday.

Dupont Manual graduate Anna DeBeer and Assumption product Elena Scott – both born and raised in Derby City – were voted Second Team All-Americans after powering the Cards within reach of a national title.

The dynamic duo helped guide Louisville to the program’s fifth Final Four appearance last week before bowing out to eventual national champion Texas. DeBeer and Scott now become the ninth and 10th players in school history to achieve multiple All-American honors.

DeBeer, deemed ACC Player of the Year, piled up a team-best 392 kills in her first full season back from injury. The 2021 All-American also topped the Cardinals with 438.5 points and 12 double-doubles.

When asked about sharing the spotlight with fellow 502 native Scott, DeBeer said: “It’s special to showcase Louisville volleyball with another hometown girl. We just try to rep the city well.”

Scott has done exactly that in her four years at U of L, earning Second Team All-American status for a second straight time. The gritty libero led Louisville and the ACC with 523 digs while also contributing 35 aces and 130 assists.

In addition to the dynamic duo, middle blocker Cara Cresse represented the Cards on the All-American Third Team – giving Louisville three players on the list for just the third occasion ever.

With so much individual hardware between DeBeer, Scott and Cresse – plus the program’s banner season – the Cardinals continue putting Louisville volleyball on the map both regionally and nationally.
