Red-Hot WKU Tops MBB Take Win Streak Out West

Riding a wave of momentum, WKU basketball carries a five-game surge into Tuesday night’s tilt with upstart Cal Baptist. The 9-3 Hilltoppers are led by CUSA Player of the Week Don McHenry, whose career-best 30 point eruption fueled a 91-84 triumph over Wright State last week.

McHenry has been indispensable during the Toppers’ streak, pacing the attack with 15.2 points and 30 assists on the young season. The dynamic junior lit up Austin Peay for 16 points Saturday, lifting WKU to a 12th straight win over the Governors.

But McHenry has help in the form of rim protector Jalen Jackson (six blocks this year) and bruising forward Rodney Howard (12 points, four boards per game). Brandon Newman chips in seven a night as Coach Rick Stansbury boasts a balanced lineup clicking on all cylinders.

In fact, Western Kentucky sits second in CUSA in scoring (82 PPG) and field goal percentage. They also rank top 25 nationally in rebounding, three point defense and bench production.

If that multifaceted attack travels west, the Hilltoppers should extend their streak against first-time foe Cal Baptist. A win would push WKU’s record to 10-3 ahead of conference play in January.

Fans can catch the Tipoff Show starting at 8:30 PM CT on ESPN+, as Western aims for lucky victory number 10 on the road.
