WKU Track & Field Awaits Strong Competition at Lenny Lyles Invitational

WKU Track & Field is gearing up for the Lenny Lyles Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27, hosted by the University of Louisville at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Ky. The meet promises to be a challenging competition, featuring a deep field of Power 5 programs.

Meet Details:

Previous Success at Bellarmine Open:

WKU Track & Field is entering the Lenny Lyles Invitational on a high note following an outstanding performance at the 2024 Bellarmine Open. Emilia Lesniak set a new meet record in the high jump, clearing 1.75 meters, breaking the previous record set by another Hilltopper, Grace Turner. Kameron Horton and Ajla Basic contributed to the success with victories in the 60-meter hurdles and weight throw, respectively.

Head Coach’s Perspective:

Head Coach Brent Chumbley expressed optimism about the upcoming competition, stating, “This weekend will be our deepest field for competition. We look forward to seeing how we stack up with a lot of Power 5 programs.”

Strong Field of Competitors:

The Lenny Lyles Invitational will attract tough competition, including teams from Florida State, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Texas Tech, and host Louisville.

Event Highlights:

  • Friday:
    • Men’s long jump at 9 a.m.
    • Men’s and women’s 200 at 10 a.m.
    • 800 leg of the pentathlon at 3:10 p.m.
    • Women’s pole vault at 1 p.m.
  • Saturday:
    • Seeded 400-meter race at 10:15 a.m.
    • Triple jump, men’s high jump, men’s pole vault, and shot put throughout the day.
    • 4×400 relays at 1:35 p.m. will conclude the meet.
