Eastern Kentucky University’s basketball standout, Isaiah Cozart, made history today as he clinched two prestigious honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference headquarters in Atlanta. Cozart not only secured the coveted title of Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year but also earned the unanimous distinction of Defensive Player of the Year, marking a remarkable achievement unparalleled in conference history.Cozart’s stellar performance on both ends of the court propelled him to this unprecedented dual recognition, solidifying his status as a dominant force in collegiate basketball. His exceptional defensive prowess, combined with his impactful contributions to EKU’s success, set him apart as a true standout in the league.Head Coach A.W. Hamilton was also recognized for his outstanding leadership, earning the well-deserved title of ASUN Coach of the Year. Under Hamilton’s guidance, Cozart and Leland Walker emerged as key figures, securing spots on the First Team All-ASUN roster. Additionally, Devontae Blanton’s contributions earned him a place on the Third Team All-ASUN, while Michael Moreno’s academic excellence was acknowledged with a spot on the Academic All-ASUN Team.Cozart’s achievement as the conference player of the year marks a historic moment for Eastern Kentucky University, with the senior standout following in the footsteps of former Colonel James Tillman, who received the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honor in 1979.As the Colonels gear up for the ASUN Tournament quarterfinals, set to take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m., anticipation runs high. EKU awaits the outcome of the first-round clash between the No. 9 seed Kennesaw State and the No. 10 seed Jacksonville, scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. at Baptist Health Arena.
