Kentucky’s football program recently secured a promising addition with the transfer of defensive back DJ Waller Jr. from Michigan. Head coach Mark Stoops proudly announced the acquisition on Monday, expressing enthusiasm for Waller’s potential impact on the team.

“DJ Waller is a long, athletic, and physical player who is coming in here hungry and ready to work,” Stoops remarked. “We are excited to welcome him to our Wildcat family.”

Waller’s transfer to Kentucky follows a successful stint at Michigan, where he played as a true freshman in 2023. His contributions helped the Wolverines achieve an impressive 15-0 record and clinch the College Football Playoff National Championship. In his freshman season, Waller appeared in 11 games, showcasing his skills in the secondary and on special teams. He tallied 12 tackles and earned recognition as the Defensive Freshman of the Week on five occasions for standout performances against various opponents.

Prior to his collegiate career, Waller honed his talents as a two-way player at Chaney High School in Youngstown, Ohio. His versatility was evident as he excelled both as a wide receiver and a defensive back. Waller’s achievements on the field earned him accolades, including first-team all-state defense recognition and selection to various prestigious regional teams.

As a consensus 3-star prospect, Waller brings a wealth of talent and potential to the Kentucky football program. With three seasons of eligibility remaining, he is poised to make a significant impact and contribute to the team’s success on the field. Kentucky fans eagerly anticipate witnessing Waller’s skills and athleticism in action as he joins the Wildcat family.
