EKU Baseball Falls to Jacksonville in ASUN Conference Tournament

Eastern Kentucky’s baseball team faced a tough 6-2 loss against Jacksonville University in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament on Tuesday in DeLand, Florida.

The Colonels (21-36) will compete in the first Pool B bracket elimination game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the loser of the game between No. 6 Central Arkansas and No. 7 seed Lipscomb. The game will be broadcasted live on ESPN+ and will take place at Stetson University’s Melching Field at Conrad Park.

EKU took an early lead, with Conner Davis driving in a run in the top of the first inning after Miguel Larreal’s double.

However, Jacksonville (26-29) responded in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to take the lead. Chandler Howard’s double brought home two runs, followed by Clayton Hodges’ sacrifice fly.

In the fourth inning, Ron Franklin Jr. scored on a fielder’s choice, narrowing the gap to 3-2.

Jacksonville extended their lead with three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Howard’s two-run single and Tyrell Brewer’s steal of home.

Despite EKU’s pitchers allowing just four hits, including only one in the final four innings, the Colonels were unable to overcome Jacksonville’s lead.

Standout Performances

  • Miguel Larreal went 2-for-5 with a run scored for EKU.
  • Chandler Howard had an impressive 2-for-4 game with four RBIs for Jacksonville.

The loss puts EKU in a challenging position as they look to bounce back in the upcoming elimination game.
