Kentucky Women’s Basketball Adds Veteran Guard Dazia Lawrence to Incoming Class

The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program, under the leadership of head coach Kenny Brooks, announced the addition of veteran 5-8 guard Dazia Lawrence (pronounced Day-Zha) to its incoming class for the 2024-25 season.

“We are excited to add Dazia to BBN,” Brooks expressed. “She brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the program and will provide a scoring punch.”

Lawrence, a Greenville, North Carolina native, showcased her talent over four seasons at Charlotte (2021-24), amassing impressive statistics with 1,170 points, 287 rebounds, 162 assists, and 133 steals.

Her senior year proved to be her most outstanding, averaging 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Lawrence demonstrated her scoring prowess with 26 double-digit scoring performances, including 13 20-plus point games and three 30-plus point games. Notably, she reached the 1,000 career points milestone during a standout performance against Temple.

In a memorable game against Southern Illinois, Lawrence shouldered the scoring load, contributing 32 of Charlotte’s 52 points. Another highlight was her double-double performance against Tulane, where she recorded 15 points and a career-high 11 assists.

Lawrence’s efficiency at the free-throw line was noteworthy, shooting at an impressive 80.0 percent, including an exceptional 11-of-12 performance against Rice.

Acknowledging her stellar season, Lawrence earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference First Team for the 2023-24 season, building on her previous recognition on the Conference-USA First Team in 2022-23.

Beyond collegiate competition, Lawrence represented Team USA in the 2023 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup in Poland. Additionally, she showcased her leadership skills at the 2024 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum.

Despite challenges, including a redshirt season and interruptions due to the coronavirus outbreak, Lawrence’s dedication and talent have made her a valuable addition to the Kentucky women’s basketball program.
