The Lexington African-American Sports Hall of Fame (LAASHOF) is proud to announce a new date and location for the Roots 3K run/walk event, taking place on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Powered by LAASHOF, this event will be held in conjunction with the annual Lexington Roots & Heritage Festival.
In light of recent heartbreaking events in our community, this year’s event is being officially positioned as the “Run/Walk for Our Youth: Healing & Unity in the East End.” LAASHOF and the Roots & Heritage Festival are coming together to provide a space for communal healing, solidarity, and hope.
Inaugural Dedication and Moment of Silence
We are officially dedicating the 2026 race to peace, youth protection, and honoring lost lives. Before the race begins, there will be a dedicated moment of silence at the starting line outside The Historic Lyric Theatre to reflect, remember, and stand united as a community committed to safeguarding our youth.
A Safe, Supported, and Family-Friendly Route
Safety and community well-being are our highest priorities. We want to emphasize to all runners, walkers, families, and attendees that the race route is fully secured, strictly family-friendly, and will be heavily supported by Lexington Police and race volunteers throughout the entire course. We are committed to providing an uplifting and secure environment for everyone participating in this meaningful morning.
Making History in the Historic East End
A running event has never been done before in conjunction with the annual Lexington Roots and Heritage Festival, making this a truly groundbreaking occasion. History will be made at the start and finish line at the historic Lyric Theatre. From there, the location and race route will take participants on a beautiful guided journey throughout the historic East End of Lexington, KY, celebrating the rich culture and enduring strength of our neighborhoods.
