The Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf team held off Ball State University by three shots to win the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational on Saturday. It is the team’s fifth tournament title this season.
EKU finished with a three-round total of 1076 (+26). The host team, Ball State, was three shots back with a 1079 (+29).
The 13-team event was contested at the par 70, 6,438-yard Delaware Country Club.
Erik Lindwall led the Colonels and tied for sixth overall. The sophomore opened with a pair of 1-under rounds of 69 on Friday and finished with a total of 212 (+2). Noah Combs (+3) placed eighth overall with the help of a 1-under 69 and a 3-under 67 on Friday.
Jared Brown’s final round 2-under 68 and a one-over round by Travis Rose helped Eastern fend off the challenge by Ball State. Brown (218) tied for 15th and Rose (221) tied for 18th.
The field also included third place Cleveland State (+42), fourth place Dayton (+46), Wright State (+58), Butler (+63) and Northern Kentucky (+74).
The Colonels have concluded their regular season schedule and will participate in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship on April 24-26.
