Three Eastern Kentucky University men’s golfers were selected to the All-Ohio Valley Conference Team and one was chosen to the OVC All-Newcomer Team, the league announced tonight from its annual banquet held in conjunction with the 207 OVC Championship in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Juniors Noah Combs and Will Sallee, and sophomore Erik Lindwall earned All-OVC honors. Freshman Billy Basham garnered a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer Team. Three of the four are Kentucky natives.
Combs, Lindwall and Sallee rank second, third and fourth in the conference in stroke average. Combs leads the team at 72.09. He shot 13 rounds at par or below during the season. The Pikeville native finished in the top-10 five times and captured the individual title at the EKU Intercollegiate.
Lindwall has a 72.16 stroke average while shooting par or better in 15 of his 32 rounds of golf. He ended the fall as the 22nd ranked European playing collegiate golf in the United States, according to the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings. Lindwall, a native of Soderkoping, Sweden, had six top-10 finishes during the regular season and won two events – the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational and the Patriot Intercollegiate.
Sallee posted a 72.47 stroke average, led the team in top-10 finishes with seven and tied for first at the Homewood/Hilton Garden & FGCU Classic. The Lexington native shot par or better in 14 rounds. Sallee placed second at the 2016 OVC Championship.
Lindwall shot the lowest round in program history when he fired a 7-under 63 at the Marshall Invitational. He also shot two rounds of 66 this season. Combs also fired a round of 66.
Basham played in five of the team’s 11 events and totaled 14 rounds of golf as a freshman. He posted a 74.64 stroke average and had one top-10 finish. The Louisville native tied for sixth out of 100 participants at the EKU Intercollegiate in the fall.
