UK Track & Field’s Castle and Hansen Named to SEC Community Service Team

Senior Amy Hansen and sophomore Noah Castle were named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team this week.

The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community through superior service efforts.

Castle logged double-digit hours, mostly as a student mentoring at Dixie Magnet Elementary School as well as helping with homework. Castle also participated in a program packing food in backpacks for the less fortunate. He made the SEC shot put final, and was a NCAA East Preliminary Championships qualifier in the shot put and discus. He was a SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll student.

Hansen has donated dozens of hours to community service while maintaining an impressive GPA in a challenging course of study and training to be an SEC-scoring athlete. She helped at game booths at the Fayette County Safe Kids Event, did Salvation Army Bell Ringing three times during December 2016 and served as a Walk-a-Child to School volunteer (met children at a designated location and walked them to school to promote taking safe walking routes to school).

Hansen also helped with UK Athletics’ Louisiana Flood Relief drive, gathering supplies to help Louisiana during the floods last summer/fall for two hours in September.

Additionally, she passed out t-shirts at a back-to-school picnic in August.

Hansen has been a SEC Honor Roll and USTFCCCA All-Academic student.
