UK WBB’s KeKe McKinney Named a Knoxville Sports HOF Athlete of the Year

University of Kentucky women’s basketball freshman wing KeKe McKinney, who recently finished a dazzling career at Fulton High School in Knoxville, Tenn., has been named a high school athlete of the year by the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame, it was announced recently.

Every year the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame selects a handful of elite high school athletes to honor at its annual hall of fame dinner and induction ceremony. McKinney was one of two female athletes selected this year as an honoree. This dinner induction ceremony will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center on August 3.

McKinney is part of Kentucky’s impressive 2017 recruiting class, which ranked top 20 nationally. The 6-foot-1 wing led Fulton High School to a state tournament berth and 27 wins her senior season, averaging a double-double with over 16 points and 11 rebounds per game. McKinney also averaged two rebounds, two steals and three blocks per game as a senior for the Falcons. Her impressive final campaign at Fulton led her to be named to the 2016-17 PrepXtra Girls Basketball Team and Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State. As a junior, McKinney averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks per game, leading Fulton to the Class AA state sectional for the third consecutive season. After her junior season, she was named the District 3 AA Co-Most Valuable Player and a Class AA All-State honoree by the TSWA. A 2017 McDonald’s All-America nominee, McKinney helped the Falcons to a state runner-up showing in 2013-14.
