Kentucky track and field’s Daniel Roberts and Tai Brown were recognized by the Southeastern Conference in the league’s 2019 Outdoor Awards, honoring outstanding performances during the past outdoor season, as voted on by the conference’s 15 head coaches.
Roberts earned Men’s Runner of the Year, and Brown was named Co-Freshman Runner of the Year alongside Elija Godwin of Georgia and Dalton Hengst of Ole Miss.
Roberts won the 110-meter hurdles at the SEC Championships, running 13.07 in the final. The time ranks No. 2 all-time in the NCAA. He scored 11.25 points in the three-day competition.
Brown was the top freshman finisher in the 110m hurdles at the SEC Championship. He broke the Kentucky freshman record in the event, running a 13.62 in prelims.
Both Roberts and Brown qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 110m hurdles, and Roberts also ran on UK’s NCAA-qualifying 4×100 and 4x400m relays.
The UK men’s team is ranked No. 18 in the most recent USTFCCCA computer rankings. The UK women’s team is ranked No. 9.
The 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
Multiple Wildcats also earned spots on All-SEC Teams. Event winners at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championships were named First Team All-SEC. Conference silver and bronze medalists were named to the second team and the top freshman scorer in each event was named to the all-freshman team.
