The University of Louisville softball team completed an impressive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) series sweep on Sunday, defeating the University of Virginia 9-2 at Palmer Park. This victory improved the Cardinals’ season record to 32-14 overall and 13-4 in conference play.
Daisy Hess was instrumental in the Cardinals’ triumph, going 4-for-4 and tying a career high with five RBIs. Taylor Roby contributed with a 3-for-3 performance, scoring two runs and driving in one, while Easton Lotus had two hits and scored three runs. Gabby Holloway (4-1) earned the win, allowing only two hits and striking out four in 5.1 innings of relief.
Louisville started strong, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Korbe Otis led off the game with a home run for the second consecutive day, putting the Cardinals on the scoreboard. Following an error, a hit batter, and a single, the bases were loaded for Daisy Hess, who delivered a two-run single.
Virginia (29-18, 8-13 ACC) fought back in the bottom of the first inning, with Jade Hylton and Tori Gilbert hitting a pair of singles that set up a two-run single by Katie Goldberg. This cut Louisville’s lead to 3-2.
However, the Cardinals extended their lead in the second inning, scoring four runs with RBI singles by Taylor Roby and Sarah Gordon and a two-run hit by Hess, bringing the score to 7-2. Louisville’s offense continued in the third inning, with Gordon and Hess each adding another RBI hit.
For the Cavaliers, Jade Hylton led the offense, going 2-for-4, while Goldberg drove in both of Virginia’s runs. Molly Grube (7-9) took the loss for Virginia.
The Cardinals will look to continue their momentum when they host Boston College for a three-game series at Ulmer Stadium, starting next Friday.
