Thomas More WBB Defeats Bethany, 87-47

The third/fourth-ranked Thomas More College women’s basketball team remained undefeated tonight (Wednesday, February 1, 2017) as it defeated Bethany College, 87-47, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Hummel Field House in Bethany, West Virginia.

With the win, the Saints improve to 20-0 overall and 13-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bison fall to 10-10 overall and 8-5 in the PAC.

Thomas More never trailed in the game as it led 26-14 after one quarter, 43-28 at halftime and 55-42 after three quarters.

The Saints out-scored Bethany, 52-14 in the paint, 26-4 off turnovers, 14-8 in second chance points and 14-2 on fast break points.

Junior Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led the Saints with a double-double as she scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while also blocking seven shots. Joining her in double-figure scoring was sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 18 point and junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 16 points. Temple finished the game with eight rebounds, while Owings led the team in assists with four. Kiernan and Owings led the team in steals with three each.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (February 4) when it travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to play Geneva College at 2 p.m.
