The EKU softball team secured the outright 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Championship with impressive 7-2 and 4-1 victories over Lipscomb at Gertrude Hood Field, marking the fourth time in program history.

Thursday’s wins also secured EKU the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2024 ASUN Championship. They will enjoy a double-bye in the tournament, commencing play on May 9 at 12:30 p.m. EST against the winner of the No. 4 seed and the play-in game between the No. 5 and No. 8 seeds.

With a chance to reach their 40th win in the series finale, EKU’s dominance was evident as they notched their 20th conference win, a feat achieved only three times in program history.

Freshman standout Maddi Rutan played a pivotal role, securing the win in game one with a complete-game performance and contributing two home runs and three RBIs in game two. Rutan’s contributions elevated her season record to 23-4 and led the team with eight home runs.

Vianna Barron, amidst Senior Day celebrations, added a solo home run, highlighting the achievements of the five-member senior class, including Barron, Rylie Grantz, Jeanay Riley, Jasmine Miller, and Madison Scott.

Jaelin Haynes and Makayla Mathis also impressed with multi-hit performances, while junior pitcher Lauren Narvaez secured the win in game two with a solid 6-inning outing.

EKU looks to wrap up the series against Lipscomb tomorrow at 11 a.m. EST at Gertrude Hood Field.
